On Remembering Her

He used to spend all day thinking of her. It felt like a grave crime if she isn't in his head. He loved her religiously. It was no less than a prayer, the way he thought of her.

One day, she asked, "Do you miss me? Do you remember me"
"I don't", he replied. "Someone is missed, Someone is remembered when someone is forgot. I don't forget you. I carry you in my mind all the time"
"You're crazy", she replied.
"And who made me that way?", he asked promptly.

Things have not been the same way as it used to be. It is a lot different from that day. She decided not to be in contact anymore when she got to know that the boy is falling for her. I think, she always knew that he liked her in a special way but chose to ignore it, but, when it came out of his mouth directly, she no longer could ignore it and took that decision saying that it would be better for both of them, perhaps even 'more better' for the boy.

He politely agreed to all the terms and conditions. "Anything for you, Ma'am" and then he deleted her number, so that it doesn't haunt him. Alas! he remembered her digits, like the way he doesn't even have to remember it. It was always that way.

He's now trying to forget her. She is no longer in his head all the time, but she drops by every now and then.

She is like that. At times it feels like she is nothing , as if she doesn't exist like the sky above or the ground underneath, but, the very next time, it is like there is nothing else in the world that can ever be without it.

Like the air you breathe, it is there but it still isn't there.

"Do you remember me?"
"Yes, now I need to remember you."
